Introduction
As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) whitens and brightens the skin by neutralizing free radicals and inhibiting tyrosinase activity, while stimulating collagen synthesis. Water-soluble formulas require a stable carrier (such as derivatives or microencapsulation) to avoid inactivation. The skin feels refreshing but high concentrations may be slightly sticky. It can improve dullness in the short term and reduce spots and enhance skin elasticity in the long term. It is commonly found in essences and ampoules and needs to be sealed and stored away from light to maintain activity.
